An innovative Greek research proposal, called PredictOHSS, created by «Eugonia» Medically Assisted Reproduction Unit and AUTH’s Human Reproduction Unit , was distinguished and will receive guidance and funding from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology), «EIT Health InnoStars 2019». Eugonia’s PredictOHSS , was the only Greek proposal , midst twelve European innovative medical applications proposals among the 104 that were totally submitted, that will receive funding and guidance from the top Organization for reinforcing innovation.
PredictOHSS is the only digital application worldwide that automatically predicts the Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), a severe In Vitro Fertilization complication. PredictOHSS application, which is available as a web calculator and as a mobile application, will be a valuable tool and assist doctors in achieving a personalized prediction of OHSS and in treating women who are likely to develop OHSS, as a complication of In Vitro Fertilization. The development of this project will be realized with the support of the National Documentation Center.
In the context of the spreading of PredictOHSS innovation proposal, a scientific conference titled “Research and Innovation in In Vitro Fertilization” was organized which took place in Herakleion Crete on Sunday 15 December. In this conference, which honorably attended and gave speeches Mr. Grigoris Paspatis, President of the Civil Council of Herakleion Crete and Mr. Charis Vavouranakis, President of the Medical Association of Herakleion Crete , were given many high level scientific speeches by distinguished Professors, Doctors and Scientists of worldwide reputation and often speakers of international forums.
The conference was organized by “Eugonia” under the shield of ΕΙΤ Health RIS Innovation Call 2019. As emphasized by Dr. Tryfon G.Lainas Reproduction Gynecologist, Director of Eugonia in his greeting: “The rapid developments in In Vitro Fertilization, impose, on the one hand, up-to-date information and research work, and on the other hand, innovative studies which are very useful and decisive in daily Medical Practice.
In continuation, Mr. Lainas referred specifically to the application, emphasizing that: “OHSS syndrome is a severe complication of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and we have now achieved to turn it to a complication of the past. It is estimated that every year about 780.000 IVF treatment cycles are realized around Europe and 2,5 million around the world. OHSS syndrome is linked to mortality, with a reported incidence of 3 deaths per 100,000 women undergoing ovarian stimulation, while in 2014 in Europe 2040 serious cases were recorded, clarifying that the incidence is underestimated.
Aiming at the effectiveness and safety of IVF methods, in this successful Conference, participants had the opportunity to be introduced into the philosophy of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM), discuss and exchange views with the Speakers who with their participation on guiding groups, co-form international knowledge with evidence.
PredictOHSS application, focuses on promoting eHealth, in order to support the fact-based decision-making process, increase automatization and, as a result, makes health care simpler and more effective.”
